Our Book Club: 16 Books and Counting

Once a month, people from across Westchester gather at Casaroma Cafe to talk about a book. Teachers, nurses, entrepreneurs, retirees. Different backgrounds, different neighborhoods, same table.
We're 16 books in now. What started as an idea has become one of the most consistent community events in downtown New Rochelle.
How It Works
We partnered with local organizations to make this accessible to everyone:
The Self — a yoga studio in New Rochelle that shares our focus on wellness and community
Humble Bumble Books — a local bookseller supporting independent reading
New Rochelle Public Library — ensuring anyone can get the book regardless of budget
Recently we started letting members lead the discussion each month. Engagement went up immediately. When a peer facilitates, people share more openly and ask better questions.
This Month: The Measure
The Measure by Nikki Erlick is a New York Times bestseller and Read with Jenna pick. The premise: one morning, everyone on Earth receives a box containing a string. The length of your string shows how long you'll live. The novel follows eight people navigating what comes next — love, fear, discrimination, and what it means to live fully when you know the end.
It's the kind of book that sparks real conversation about life, mortality, and how we treat each other.
